Erika comes from Kobe in Japan. She obtained her Bachelor in Physiotherapy from Osaka Prefecture University and she got a national license as physiotherapist in Japan. She interacted with many patients in hospitals and they are her big motivation until now to dedicate herself to fundamental research in neuroscience. While completing her Master’s research project about drugs that can promote motor learning at Osaka Metropolitan University, she became fascinated by molecular mechanisms to learn more than what she found from behavioral experiments with mice. Just after starting her PhD life in Japan, she joined in the Stoeckli lab as a visiting student with a scholarship (Tobitate! Study Abroad Initiative, MEXT). Her project at the University of Zurich focuses on primary cilia and their role in neural circuit formation and function, which is related to her interest because of experiences working at Developmental Rehabilitation Center. In her free time, she likes playing the violin, listening to music (Classical music and K-pop music) and international exchange.
