Ushnik was born and raised in Kolkata, India, where his fascination with biology led him to pursue a dual degree in Biology at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali. His academic journey took him across continents, culminating in a Master’s in Biomedical Neuroscience from the Uni. of Antwerp. Throughout his studies, he delved into a wide range of research areas, from modeling altruistic behavior in rodents to developing innovative diagnostic tools for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. His passion for neuroscience deepened during his work on neurobehavioral assessment in autism-like mouse models and studying tau-related neuropathology in Alzheimer's disease. Joining the Müller Lab in September 2024 as a PhD student, Ushnik is eager to explore new dimensions of synaptic transmission and try to answer some of the mysteries of the brain! Outside the lab, he enjoys immersing himself in theatre, experimenting with new recipes, and capturing moments through photography.
