Nela was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, where she completed a Bachelor's in Biology at the University of British Columbia. Following graduation, she contributed to the province's pandemic response by working in the virology lab at the BC Centre for Disease Control. Her experience then took her to Belgrade, Serbia, her parents' hometown, where she worked at the Torlak Institute of Virology, Vaccines, and Sera. There, Nela immersed herself into the world of pharmaceuticals, contributing to the production of vaccines and various drugs while reconnecting with her cultural roots. Despite her extensive exposure to public health, diagnostics, and production, her interest in research, particularly in genetic engineering, led her to pursue a Master's at the DMLS in Zurich. In her spare time, Nela can often be found by the water or in the mountains, travelling, or dancing to electronic music. She also teaches skiing during the winter months.
