Elise was born in Leiderdorp, the Netherlands. She did her Bachelors degree at the Hogeschool Leiden and her Bachelor project at the Institution of Veterinary Pathology, Free University in Berlin. After her Bachelor, she continued her studies in Biology at Leiden University with a focus on Molecular and Cellular biology. Her first master's project was in Prof. Dennis Claessen's lab at Leiden University, where she worked on the genetic characterization and understanding of the biological relevance in stress-induced cells in Kitasatospora viridifaciens. During her second master's project, she worked on de novo polarization in fission yeast, focusing on the role of the CORVET complex in this process. She did this is in Prof. Damian Brunner's lab at the University of Zurich in the Department of Molecular Life Sciences. Elise joined the Gilmour lab in November 2022 as a PhD student. In her free time, Elise enjoys activities such as snowboarding, hiking, and reading.
