Silvia studied biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich, with research stays at Harvard Medical School in Boston and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. During her PhD at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel, she investigated the role of DNA methylation in gene regulation. In her postdoc at the University of Washington in Seattle, she developed and applied new methods to study cell type-specific gene regulation at scale and single cell resolution. As computational team lead at a San Francisco biotech start-up, she leveraged single cell genomics and in vivo multiplexed perturbation methods for target discovery in complex diseases. In October 2024, Silvia started her lab as an Assistant Professor at the University of Zurich.

Silvia's love for exploring the unknown goes beyond the cellular landscape: she's also a passionate ski mountaineer, alpine climber and wilderness adventurer.
