Ellen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Leiden University and continued her studies at Utrecht University with a Master in Regenerative Medicine. During her first research project, she became increasingly interested in the computational approaches in biology. Therefore, she decided to dedicate a significant part of her Master’s degree to bioinformatics.
After working as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Molecular Systems Biology at ETH Zürich for a year, she decided to combine her experimental and computational interests by doing a joint PhD with the Bachmann-Gagescu lab and the Beltrao lab. Her project focuses on developing computational and experimental protein interaction-based approaches to study the genotype-to-phenotype relation in ciliopathies.
In her free time, Ellen enjoys being in the mountains for climbing, skiing and trail running.
